☆What is Ryumonjizaka?

It is an old road that remains in the former Kajiki-cho.

It is a part of the former Oguchisuji and is a stone pavement slope that runs from Takaida in Kida to Mao. It is said that construction started in 1635 (Kanei 12) and was completed more than 100 years later. It is said that the stone was cut from the nearby Hinosakozan, and the shrine of Shimazu Hisamon (Kajiki Shimazu family 4th generation), who later became the lord of the 24th domain, remains in the stone cutting site. The total length was more than 1,500 meters, but currently only 486.8 meters remain as it was at that time. As a main trunk of goods, he was heavily involved in Satsuma's economy and culture, and when he played the role of the southwest in 1877, the Satsuma army led by Takamori Saigo went to Kumamoto through this slope. It was selected by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 1996 as one of the "100 Best Paths to History".

There are parking lots (8 cars) and toilets, so you can enjoy sightseeing freely.
