The 12 foothills of the prefecture, including the “Gamo Foothills” in our city, have been designated as a Japan Heritage Site as “towns where Satsuma samurai lived.”

Shimazu Yoshihiro, a Sengoku warlord with deep ties to Aira City He was a military commander who had a strong presence in battles such as the Battle of Sekigahara and made his name known as one of the most powerful daimyo of the Sengoku period.
